Portable building provider to pay more than $2 million for ripping off Queenslanders

Christopher Terrance Edards and his company Chace Roofing Sheds and Patios Pty Ltd have been ordered to pay more than $2 million in fines, compensation and other costs after they were found guilty of 38 counts of wrongly accepting payment under Australian Consumer Law in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court today.

A Gold Coast demountable building supplier has been ordered to pay $10,000 and its representative has been ordered to pay more than $45,000 in fines and compensation in the Brisbane Magistrates Court today after pleading guilty to accepting payment and failing to supply goods within a specified period. Only Pods Pty Ltd and its representative, Lyndsay William Brown, left a consumer more than $37,000 out of pocket after they ordered a demountable building via Facebook Marketplace.

Queenslanders warned to avoid two dodgy SEQ tradies

The marketplace regulator is warning consumers to avoid two tradies currently operating in South East Queensland, who each have a history of ripping people off. Public warnings have been issued for James Bruce Michael Darren Brown and his stair supply and installation and renovation businesses, and Matthew Geoffrey Rixon AKA Joseph J Sara and his fencing and renovation businesses.
Gold Coast wedding videographer fined $7500 after leaving newlyweds in the lurch

A Gold Coast wedding videographer has been fined $7500 after an OFT investigation found he left seven newlywed couples in the lurch after failing to supply video services he was contracted for. James McDonald Connell, who traded as Anchored Cinemas, was found guilty of seven counts of wrongly accepting payment under Australian Consumer Law in the Southport Magistrates Court today.
Sunnybank real estate agent convicted

A Sunnybank real estate agent has been convicted following an investigation by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT). Shih-Hao Huang and his company Property & Management People Pty Ltd, also had their real estate licences permanently disqualified.

Gold Coast RV dealer to pay almost $550K for ripping off Queenslanders

David Lindsay Thorley and his company Thorley Products Pty Ltd (trading as Spectrum RV) was found guilty of wrongly accepting payment from Queenslanders for recreational vehicles that weren't provided and was ordered to pay over $549,000 in fines, compensation and other costs after being taken to court by OFT for breaching Australian Consumer Law.
Fair Trading launches legal action against portable building provider

The Office of Fair Trading has launched legal action against Christopher Terrance Edards and his company Chace Roofing Sheds and Patios Pty Ltd for alleged breaches of Australian Consumer Law. OFT alleges Mr Edards and his company took more than $1.3 million from consumers for portable buildings that were not provided.
Brisbane real estate agent jailed for fraud
